Q: What kind of music binder does a student performer need?
A: Each individual performer needs to have an orchestra binder or choral folder, even though stringed instrumentalists share a music stand:
Orchestra/Band binder: click here
- Color: Concert Black
- Ring Size & Shape: ½ Inch & Round
- Paper Size to Be Inserted: Letter
Common mistake: WHITE binder & 1-inch ring (too large to fit on a music stand)

Please put a small label with your name and instrument/part on the front or inside of the binder to identify it when left on the music stand.

Do Not Use Clear Sheet Protectors
- During the rehearsals, you need to mark on your parts immediately when conductors share musical expressions, instructions, or interpretations. If you use a clear sheet protector, you will spend extra time taking out a music sheet from a protector.
- On the stage of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the lights may be reflected on the shiny protector and bother concentrating on the performance.

Optional Digital Music Binder: iPad/Tablet
To use an iPad/Tablet as a music binder, you need to meet the following requirements:
- Screen Size: 12.9″
- Case Color: White-Color Case (Apple) Amazon Choice ***White color for Choral Folder
- Case Color: Any color for Band and Orchestra (except violin/viola/cello)
- For Violin, Viola, & Cello Only: Please continue to use a hard copy binder; iPads/Tablets are NOT permitted.
- For LAYP Band Only: If your chair placement is in the first row facing the audience, two performers will share one music stand. In this case, you will need to place two iPads on the stand. Both devices should share the stand and be arranged to replicate the appearance of a two-page view, as it would with a hard copy part.
- For LAYP Choir Only: If you do not have a white case, you may attach your iPad to a white music binder using tape.
