LAYP Volunteer Service Program: Donate-Your-Talent Project

  • Purpose of Organization: Music education, public concerts, & youth orchestra programs
  • Site Address (online): via Zoom meetings
  • Site Supervisor: Dr. Gene Chung, music director
  • Days Volunteers Are Needed: Tuesday & Thursday on Zoom; Saturdays in-person
  • Service Times: 7:00-8:00 PM (extended hours available) on Tues & Thur; 1:00-3:00 PM on Sat.
  • Service Period: Academic year
  • Volunteer Qualification: LAYP high school students will have priority seats (LAYP middle school students may apply. If you are not a US citizen or permanent resident, you will NOT be eligible for Mr. Joe Biden’s President Award but receive a certificate of service hours only from LAYP.

Types of Work for Which Volunteers Are Needed

  1. music tutoring for the students in need
  2. preparing for lesson plans

The President’s Volunteer Service Award

The student volunteers can be nominated to the President’s Volunteer Service if the following volunteer service hours meet .

  • Award Ceremony: To Be Announced; A recipient needs to give a short speech at the online ceremony
  • Volunteer Service Hour Credits at Other Sites: You may submit your service hour certificate issued by other community service programs to add credit hours to the required hours above.

2022-23 Fall Semester

  • Orientation/Training 1: Nov. 1 & 3 (attend either one)
  • Orientation/Training 2: Nov. 8 & 10 (attend either one)
  • Lesson 1: Nov. 15 & 17
  • Lesson 2: Nov. 22 (no lesson on 11/24; Thanksgiving break)
  • Lesson 3: Nov. 29 & Dec 1
  • Lesson 4: Dec. 6 & 8
  • Lesson 5: Dec. 13 & 15

2022-23 Spring Semester

  • Orientation/Training: Jan. 10 & 12 (attend either one)
  • Lesson 1: Jan. 17 & 29
  • Lesson 2: Jan. 24 & 26
  • Lesson 3: Jan. 31 & Feb.2
  • Lesson 3: Feb. 7 & 9
  • Lesson 4: Feb. 14 (no lessons on 2/16-23)
  • Lesson 5: Feb. 28 & March 2
  • Lesson 6: March 7 & 9 (no lessons on 3/14-16)
  • Lesson 7: March 21 & 23
  • Lesson 8: March 28 & 30
  • Lesson 9: April 4 & 6 (no lessons on 4/11-13)
