Makeup/Alternative Rehearsals (choose either or both options):

  1. Join LAYP Orchestra & Band Academy sessions to receive credit for makeup hours (for orchestra & band students only; see details below).
  2. Take extra private lessons: (updated) If you take an additional private lesson with your current teacher and focus on your concert repertoire, you may earn rehearsal credit. For every 1 hour of private lesson, followed by 1 hour of individual practice and 1 hour of video recording/submission, you may receive 3 hours of rehearsal credit. This option is available for orchestra, band, and choir students.

Video Submission Details: Click here to upload your practice video. Please arrange additional lessons with your current private teacher to learn and practice all concert pieces. Record a video of your performance of all assigned pieces and submit it to us by the deadline—typically one week before each concert (see the posted deadlines). Once submitted and reviewed, you will receive credit.

Notes: Practice video submission is required only for students who have time conflicts with rehearsals. If you are able to attend all rehearsals, you do not need to submit any practice videos.

Orch & Band Academy:

If you sign up for and attend the Orch & Band Academy sessions, you will earn credits toward alternative or optional makeup lessons. For instance, to make up for Rehearsal 1, you must attend two separate sessions to fulfill the six-hour rehearsal requirement.

Rehearsal Rule

Rehearsal Rule: All three intensive rehearsals and the tutti rehearsal are mandatory for all the qualified student performers to be the finalists, and there will be no excuse for the dress rehearsal.

On concert day, plan to conserve your energy and avoid scheduling doctor’s appointments or attending other events such as recitals, competitions, festivals, camps, or SAT exams.

Makeup/Alternative Rehearsal Plan : If you have a scheduling conflict, you must submit your makeup or alternative rehearsal plan by the deadline for LAYP approval. For your plan, please select one or both of the alternative options listed below.

  1. Join LAYP Orchestra & Band Academy sessions to receive credit for missed rehearsal hours (for orchestra and band students only; see details above). If the in-person academy schedule does not work for you, please contact us to arrange an Online Academy session.
  2. Take extra private lessons: (updated) If you take an additional private lesson with your current teacher and focus on your concert repertoire, you may earn rehearsal credit. For every 1 hour of private lesson, followed by 1 hour of individual practice and 1 hour of video recording/submission, you may receive 3 hours of rehearsal credit. This option is available for orchestra, band, and choir students.

Tutti Rehearsal (on the day before the concert): Upon the completion of the tutti rehearsal, a qualified/registered performer becomes a finalist. The finalist will receive a Disney Hall backstage pass upon attending and completing this tutti rehearsal. This is the only day when all groups gather together and run through the concert repertoire, just one day before the concert. Without a Disney Hall backstage pass, access to the artist entrance at Disney Hall will be denied.

Dress Rehearsal on the Concert Day: This day demands full attention and energy, with no room for excuses. Please ensure there are no conflicts with other events throughout the entire day (morning, afternoon, and evening; 10:30 AM – 10:30 PM). Plan to conserve your energy and avoid scheduling doctor’s appointments or attending other events such as recitals, competitions, festivals, camps, or SAT exams.

Notes: No excuses for the dress rehearsal.

LAYP Finalist

Q: Your website states “attending all the required rehearsals is mandatory for accepted student performers to qualify as finalists.”  What does “qualify as finalists” mean? 

A: The finalists mean the performers who completed all the required rehearsals. If you miss a rehearsal, you cannot be qualified as a finalist to perform at the concert hall. See Rehearsal Rule above.
